I started by wanting to tell you guys about my biggest fear, and how I am overcoming it right now! What I thought my biggest fear and largest problem was, is giving me a huge clue about myself. I thought the thing I was scared most of in life, was hating my career. The silly part is I don’t even have a career yet, I am just taking a gamble with myself.
Guys, I am terrified of graduating school, and getting lost in the mix of having no idea what to do, or where I want to go with my career. Having spent 4 years in school, now about to swing into my 5th year, and I have switched majors 6 times. If I would have said when I started school that I would be that indecisive, I would have laughed. And then I realized I’m not the only one. While not every single switch was hating that field, sometimes it was truly a lack of mental capacity. Luckily I am now finding exactly what I want to do and how to do it (Ask me about the Best Side Biz Ever!) The reason I wanted to talk about my fear was because I believed my switching of majors was typically the result of a mid college crisis. A panic, that I thought was being caused by a fear of hating my future job and being stuck behind a desk in a cubicle for the rest of my life. This IS NOT an option for me and the ways that I am productive.
So here’s the deal with my fear – As I was writing this post I started to reflect. I reflected in truth on my fear, a fear I know I can overcome. It is not the career I am afraid of, it is the future in general. WOW. I know it might seem simple or trivial to some but the unknown scares the living shit out of me. While at a conference this weekend for USAG Region 8 Congress (Post on this coming soon), I realized that I cut myself short. Only I do this to myself. I realized that I am stopping myself from meeting my goals because I am afraid to assume the responsibilities of the future. Because I am TERRIFIED of the unknown consequences that come with taking the next step.
So Here is 4 Ways I Am Overcoming My Biggest Fear And You Can Too!
1. Admit it – Here I am admitting it to you. This is the first step. Acknowledge what you are afraid of and you might realize you aren’t afraid any more or your fear has changed. Write it down, shout it out and take accountability!
2. Make a plan – What are some small things you can do to overcome that fear. I thought mine was picking a major. PLOT TWIST it was not! It was jumping head first into a movement that gives me purpose, support and best of all income. Jot something down… Just putting thoughts to paper makes it real and an actual plan. 3. Stick to it – Sticking to a plan in the middle of life can be hard. However, at some point we have to make a choice. What is best for MY wellbeing*? *NO ONE ELSE BUT YOU. It is your fear that is throwing you off the track, make a list; what can stay and what has to go immediately?
4. Jump in, kick that fears butt and accomplish your goals – The only way you can forge a new path is by taking those first steps! I am doing that right now by writing this post. Saying, “I have a plan, God has a plan, and I am taking action!”
